Australian Golf Course Superintendents Association (AGCSA) awards education points for Bernhard seminars
By BERNHARD MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS
Bernhard and Company were welcomed into the AGCSA’s Accreditation Program (AAP) with their “Better Grass for Less Money” seminar, presented by Stephen Bernhard, Managing Director.
A valuable 3.5 points are awarded for each seminar which will highlight to golf course superintendents and their maintenance teams the implications of developing a mower maintenance program and how it relates to turf health. Appearance and playability are very important. This program demonstrates how implementing a sharpening regime can dramatically impact the golf facility’s environmental image through reduced applications and appropriate use of fertilisers, fungicides and water.
The relationship between mower preparation and superb playing conditions will be reinforced and superintendents will observe how they can move toward improved turf appearance, increased green speed, smoother ball roll and greater green consistency, and turf resilience to accumulated stress.
In the late 1990’s the AGCSA Board introduced the Accreditation Program (AAP) to encourage golf course superintendents to undertake continuous training throughout their careers, thereby promoting the position of superintendent as a highly skilled and professional role.
In recent times more demands are being made of turf professionals. The role of a modern golf course superintendent now extends far beyond daily course maintenance. Terms such as annual programs, strategic objectives, budgets, financial planning, environmental and OH&S management were once unheard of but are now common within our industry.
The AGCSA Accreditation Program aims to:
• Promote the profession
• Build a culture of continual training
• Reward those who achieve a high industry standard and those who actively remain updated
• Give program members ‘an edge’ when negotiating pay rates or seeking employment
• Give clubs a clear choice when employing course maintenance staff.
A week long educational road show has been agreed for November 2009, presented in association with the AGCSA by Bernhard’s Australian distributor - PJC Sports Turf. This now famous program will be featured in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
